Nest boxes are useful
to birds in winter, as cozy roosts out of the wind. Be sure yours are
cleaned and disinfected to prepare them for their cold weather use.
Nest boxes make fine gifts at holiday time as well. We have both functional
houses as shown and decorative models for the more adventurous birds
(and
appreciative bird lovers.)

Why
bat houses?! Bats occur in almost all parts of the Bay Area and California,
and each one can eat up to 500 insects/hour! They need day roost sites,
most of which have disappeared because of construction. Our bat houses are
produced by the Organization for Bat Conservation, so are based on the
latest research. If you have a southeast-facing location for the box, these
animals will greatly decrease the insect population around your home.

| At
right is a platform – used for nesting and/or roosting. If you have house
finches, doves, or black phoebes, they may appreciate having a ready-made
platform to use. Robins may also use a platform. Ask us about additional
characteristics which make nesting boxes good for birds.
